When we think about Valentine’s Day, we tend to think about a holiday exclusively for the realm of lovers. A commercialized holiday full of chocolates, flowers, and teddy bears. Just be present. Even the simple fact that you have carved out time from your busy schedule on such an important day will surely put a smile on their face. Make the visit even more special with a small gift such as a homemade card that says to them that you love and are thinking of them. Something homemade will be much more meaningful than something store-bought.
Send a care package. If being present isn’t an option. A great alternative is sending a care package full of warm greetings and memorabilia. Think about the persons hobbies, interests, favourite foods, or desired details. Also a fantastic idea to send photos or videos of family for them to enjoy. The more personalized, the better.
Journey down memory lane. Nothing can be more fulfilling than walking through memories of all of life’s joyous moments. Help your loved one remember the ‘good times’ by prompting them with questions about Valentines’ days of old. Go through old photos or letters together to unearth special moments both current and of days past.
Invoke the unexpected. Do something unexpected! Plan a fun outing that would be acceptable for the individual. Take a trip for coffee and a treat, head to a movie, take a nice walk in the park. Whatever it is, make it spontaneous!
